Kogi PDP: Plots To Manipulate Senatorial Primaries Uncovered

Information filtering in from the political circle in Kogi State revealed that the three senators currently representing the state at the red chamber under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have taken their re-election bid to an unimaginable level as they feared that their constituents no longer needed their services.

Reliable informants alleged that Senators Attai Aidoko – Kogi East, Dino Melaye – Kogi West, Ahmed Ogembe – Kogi Central have perfected plans to get the senatorial tickets of their various constituencies by selecting well-briefed Party and INEC officials with specific instructions to manipulate the primaries slated for Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 in their favour. This is coming a few days after the trio failed to secure an automatic ticket from the party.

The plan which is said to have been hatched with the full support of the National and State leaders of the PDP is expected to make a mockery of the official primary election as the Party is said to have decided already on the names to forward to INEC Post Primary election.

The trio according to sources, has Senator Aidoko as its strategic head for the scheme and he’s expected to deploy his well-known underhand tactics to sway the outcome in their favour.

The source further disclosed that the senators have also perfected a grand plan to engage the services of thugs to harass delegates that are not committed to them thereby forcing themselves on the people.

It was alleged that the senators also planned to refuse other aspirants access to the venue of the election and that is why they are working with some powerful elements in the party to achieve their aim.

We were further informed that the senators planned to cause a commotion if things don’t go their way.

“Senators Aidoko, Melaye and Ogambe are desperate to return to the Senate chamber in 2019 at all cost. They are using all within their power to get the ticket of the party despite their unpopularity and I can tell you that they will fail” said a reliable source.

The source recalled that the youths in Kogi East Senatorial District had earlier rejected the re-election of Senator Attai Aidoko.

The source stressed: “Just imagine Aidoko, the longest-serving federal lawmaker from Kogi East, but ironically, “the worst amongst all. He has serially failed in terms of good legislation, provision of amenities through constituency projects and youth empowerment. Aidoko should be told the naked truth. He must be told that the seat of Kogi East doesn’t belong to his family neither any godfather.”

“Senator Aidoko has provided poor representation, starting from his days in the House of Representatives, where he represented Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro Federal Constituency from 2003 to 2011 and served as Chairman, House Committee on Federal Capital Territory, and later as Chairman, Senate Committee on SEGS.

“As a Senator, he can’t point at one single thing as an achievement that we can call his Constituency project.

“He is only after his personal interest and that of his godfather which is not good for our people in need of development. In fact, Aidoko is a liability on the good people of Kogi East and he has no political relevance in both the region and at the national level. Aidoko as Chairman Senate Committee on SDG sold contracts and did virtually all the contracts using proxies. He’s that self-centred “the source alleged.

Another source said “Also look at Dino Melaye, a political prostitute who does not even know what legislation is all about. It’s really a big shame!”

Ex-Governors Mount Pressure On Danjuma Goje To Accept Buhari’s Candidate, Lawan, For Senate President

Some former governors are mounting pressure on their former colleague, Senator Danjuma Goje, to accept President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice of Ahmad Lawan for Senate president, The Nation reports.

The President is believed to have met Goje on the matter.

According to reports, Lawan, who is the Senate Leader, is forging ahead. He met yesterday with some senators-elect and pleaded with them to give him a chance.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) former governors, including some of them who are senators, have opted to back Buhari’s decision on Lawan.

Some of the former governors include Ahmed Sani Yerima, Adamu Aliero, Abdullahi Adamu, Aliyu Wammako, George Akume, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Kabiru Gaya and Godswill Akpabio.

It was gathered that the ex-governors appreciated the “cautious approach adopted by Goje to his aspiration without ruffling feathers but they felt he should defer to the President”.

The ex-governors have sent a delegation to Goje to reconsider his position.

Although two of them were with Goje on Saturday for what was termed “ a social gathering”, it was unclear whether they were the ones who spoke on behalf of their colleagues.

A former governor, who pleaded not to be named, said: “It is true we are trying to avoid cracks in APC over the Ninth Senate President and some of us have met on the President’s choice and how to prevail on Goje to sacrifice his aspiration.

“I can tell you that some of us have opened talks with him. We are talking to him; we are mounting pressure. We also decided to send a delegation to him.

“As a matter of right, Goje is qualified to lead the Senate but we do not really want him to disagree with the President. And he is not a leader who believes in confrontation.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “Our intervention is just a follow-up to the audience between the President and Goje.”

“The former governor of Gombe State is yet to make any categorical statement on his ambition.”

Goje, it was learnt, told Buhari, who persuaded him to support Lawan, that he would “get back to him”.

“Goje has not returned to the President on what he intends to do,” a source in the Presidency said.

The Lawan Group is, however, waiting for Goje’s response before arranging a meeting between the two leaders.

Another source said: “Since a presidential intervention is already involved, we have deliberately asked Lawan to leave the initiative to President Buhari. The truth is that the President’s meeting with Goje underscored the enormous respect he has for the ex-governor.

“Lawan is ready to meet with Goje but after the elders and the ex-governors have brokered a deal.”

Lawan and members of his campaign team last night met with some senators-elect in Abuja on his aspiration.

The senators-elect are in the second batch of those to benefit from the induction course which was packaged by the National Assembly management.

A source at the session quoted Lawan as saying: “Give me a chance, I will provide quality leadership, I will carry every Senator along in whatever I do.”

A Senator-elect said: “The campaign team of the Senate Leader reached out to some of us across party lines. I am new, but I am impressed by his experience on legislative business. Let us see how it goes.”
