Timi Frank, the immediate past Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that the party’s National Chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomohle, deceived President Muhammadu Buhari to depart for London after promising him (Buhari) that he (Oshiomhole) will remove the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, within 10 days.
Frank was reacting to yesterday’s invasion of the National Assembly by men of the Department for State Service, DSS.
The former APC chieftain berated Oshiomhole for denying allegedly having anything to do with blockage of the National Assembly and the attempt to impeach Saraki.
Part of Frank’s statement said, “Why is Oshiomhole lying when every Nigerian knows that he is the one out to foist a new leadership on the Senate at all cost even when he knows that the APC lawmakers lack the two-third constitutionally stipulated number of Senators to legally remove Saraki and Ekweremadu?
“Nigerians must not be deceived, Oshiomhole is a dictator. He does not like anything democratic. He only mouths democracy when he has something to gain but when his interest is at stake like it is right now, he is usually forced to show the dictatorial stuff he is made of.
“Besides, having deceived President Buhari to leave for London and give him 10 days to remove Saraki, he is now quick to wash his hands off the dirty plot now that he seems to have failed to deliver on his evil promises.
“Thankfully, a friend just sent me a Whatsapp photo of Buhari purportedly watching Oshiomhole’s instigated malfeasance at the National Assembly gate. If that photograph is true, I want Buhari to know that he has been deceived by Oshiomhole. Nigerians want the rule of law and due process to be followed in order to deepen our democracy, not crude tactics now being employed by Oshiomhole.
“Besides, any resort to self-help will never fly with Nigerians because they know the price those who fought for democracy in the country had had to pay to bring us to where we are today.
“Once again I call on Nigerians and members of the international community who are now rightly horrified by this coup against democracy in Nigeria to hold Oshiomhole responsible for any breakdown of law and order capable of truncating democracy in the country,” he stated.
Frank also urged Nigerians not to accord the statement credited to the Acting President, Yemi Osibanjo purportedly condemning the invasion of the National Assembly with any modicum of believability.
“They are acting a script. They want to frustrate the National Assembly and by extension destroy democracy for selfish reasons,” he said.
252 Aides Dump Tambuwal For APC
In what appears like a political earthquake, 252 Special Advisers and Special Assistants appointed by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State have resigned their appointments.
And they have returned to the All Progressives Congress, instead of working under a PDP government.
Alhaji Ibrahim Haske, a Special Adviser to the Governor and spokesman for all the aides, announced this at a news conference in Sokoto on Sunday.
He said their decision followed Gov. Tambuwal’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Our appointment is based on the position that APC is the political party governing the state and now that the government belongs to PDP, we have no option other than to resign.
“We are bonafide members of APC and our position has always remained same; we, therefore, resign voluntarily from the PDP government,” Haske said.
Haske, who was a former Sokoto South Local Government Chairman, further explained the decision was based on their desire to support APC to deliver on its mandate after the 2019 general elections.
Alhaji Abdullahi Sokoto, also a special adviser to Tambuwal, restated the former aides’ commitment and dedication toward ensuring the success of APC across the state.
“We will continue to remain in our party APC and as such, we sacrifice our political appointments to clarify people’s doubt and show our stand on party supremacy.”
He restated the group’s loyalty and support to the policies and programme of the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of APC.
In his reaction, the APC Chairman in the state, Alhaji Sadiq Achida, commended the former aides to Gov. Tambuwal for their demonstration of loyalty to the party.
He said, “The sacrifice of the Special advisers is highly recommended and will surely be rewarded by the people and APC in future.”
Defection: Over 1600 Members Dump APC In Edo
No fewer than 1,650 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have dumped the ruling party in Edo State.
The members, from the 12 wards of Oredo Local Government Area of the State, resigned their membership of the party yesterday.
Spokesman of the former APC members, Omo-Osagie Efosa, who addressed journalists in Benin City, the state capital, pointed out that they decided to resign their membership of the party because the “change mantra,” which was what brought them into the party had failed.
Omo-Osagie also listed the undemocratic manner in which the party was run by the state leadership and the “cabal like manner“ in which cronies and political jobbers were secretly anointed by some party leaders to conduct the last congresses in the state as part of their reasons.
Omo-Sagie further claimed that during the party’s council primaries, of which he was a front-runner for the chairman in Oredo LGA, he was arm-twisted and edged out of the race after he had paid for and collected nomination form.
He said, “They secretly selected councillors and chairmen as candidates for the election and were not allowed to face the electorate in the primaries.
“Even when there were complaints that some leaders were collecting huge sums of money from aspirants, the party blatantly refused to entertain the complaints nor did it investigated them to give victims the needed justice.”
Tinubu Breaks Silence On Defections, Lists Reasons Saraki, Tambuwal Dumped APC For PDP
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Sunday revealed why the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, defected from the party to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Tinubu said Saraki, Tambuwal and other defectors left the ruling party because APC could not offer them what they wanted.
He disclosed that Saraki and Tambuwal wanted automatic tickets and “sharing of the national wealth which the APC could not guarantee.”
Tinubu said this in a statement he personally signed entitled “They Go Away Because We Go the Right Way”, and was posted on his official Twitter handle.
According to him, the defectors “left the party to return to a motley agglomeration that would promise them what true democracy could not: automatic tickets, sharing of the national wealth and other offices and privileges”.
Tinubu asked the people to go beyond the debate on the numbers in the Senate or the House of Representatives, saying “we must pull back from the shallow headlines to recognize that something fundamental is at stake.
“Nigeria is undergoing a historic transition. Sometimes awkwardly, tentatively, yet inexorably, we nurture political and governance reform. We steadily close the door on the old malpractices that have caused a rich nation to reside in the tenement of the global poor”.
Speaking specifically on the Sokoto Governor’s defection, the APC leader said: “Governor Tambuwal’s exit can be distilled to one cause. He covets the presidency.
However, he had not the stomach to challenge President Buhari in a primary. Tambuwal felt further insulted that he would be compelled to face a direct primary just to retain the governorship nomination. But for the promise made by PDP headliners like Rivers State Governor Wike that he would have the PDP presidential nomination, Tambuwal would not have left.
“His exit had nothing to do with the governance of the nation. It was about forging a personal ambition predicated on the defeat of progressive reform not the advancement of it.”
On the Senate President, he said: “Much the same for Senate President Saraki. Returning to the PDP, he harbours dreams of the presidency but Tambuwal’s ambition will dwarf Saraki’s when the two collide.
“If Saraki had remained in the APC, he would be unable to reclaim his Senate seat let alone the Senate Presidency. He thus bolted because he lusts for the presidency but was promised by the PDP, at least, a return to his position in the Senate”.
