As a part of exciting line ups for the Parish’s iconic 2018 Harvest programme themed “Harvest of God’s Love”, St. Dominic Parish, Yaba, Lagos will launch GIFTED, an annual talent hunt showcase for the Catholic faithful.

We have over 50 societies and ministries and actively encourage parishioners to participate and express their faith.” Rev. Fr. Richard continued by explaining that the Parish’s vast talent pool and demographics informed the choice to launch GIFTED.
“With over 40,000 registered parishioners where 60% are young people, we had to create a platform that celebrates the numerous talents that our youth embody. This is exactly why we have taken our time to package this programme in a way that it can continue to serve the talent purpose on an annual basis.”

Youthful strikers competing at the ongoing Principals’ Cup competition for Secondary Schools in Delta State are making headlines with their beautiful displays.

The competition sponsored by Zenith Bank Plc is still at the stage whereby schools are jostling to pick the sole ticket to represent each of the 25 Local Governments in the state.

It was three years ago that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration of Delta State revived the tournament which was in limbo for over 25 years in a partnership with Zenith Bank.

The results so far in the Local Governments indicate that more goals are being scored in the current edition of the annual tournament. In the Aniocha South LG match between Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogwa and St Anthony Secondary School, George Favour was on the rampage with four goals in the 4-1 victory recorded by the Ogwa team.

While fans of the game were still expressing delight about the feat achieved by Favour, Lucky Obiego also achieved similar feat in the final match of the Oshimili North LG decided only yesterday.

Lucky scored three goals within 15 minutes for Thomas Ibusa Secondary school in their 5-0 thrashing of Ugbolu Secondary School. He registered the 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals for his team in the 25th, 26th and 40th minutes respectively.

His feat was enough to earn his school a place in the zonal stage of the competition which is scheduled for January. It will be recalled that the highest scorers in the past two editions of the tournament were rewarded handsomely during the closing ceremony of the event.

Eyiyemi Stanley also recorded a brace for Beach Secondary School in their 3-1 win over Christ The Saviour International School.

Meanwhile, many of the LGs have fixed their final dates to conform totally with the schedule of the organizers.

For example, Ughelli South LG and Isoko North LG are expected to stage their finals on November 15 (Thursday) respectively.

The ongoing LG stage of the competition ends next week.

The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has raised the alarm over the influx of suspected political thugs into the state as the by-election for Ekiti, Irepodun and Isin Federal Constituency approaches.

Ahmed, who declared that the state is under siege, said this on Tuesday when he received Concerned Kwara South Youth at the Government House, Ilorin.

The Governor expressed fear over the redeployment of Divisional Police Officers in Kwara South Senatorial District by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, alleging that the IGP’s actions at this critical period called for serious concern.

Ahmed further explained that ordinarily government should have been excited with the police action of restrategizing to ensure free, fair and credible election, but past experiences have shown that the police was not sincere and faithful with the move.

According to him: “Past experiences in both Ekiti and Osun States had proven that the police force is trying to support the opposition to manipulate the by-election.

“Credible information reaching us proves that the police are conniving with the opposition to cause mayhem and intimidate our people and get them disfranchised in the by-election.”

The Governor warned against threatening of the country’s democracy with the actions of the IGP and appealed to the Presidency to call Idris to order.

Speaking earlier, leader of the protesting youths, Comrade Felix Alaba, threw their weight behind the Governor and praised him for the developmental projects across the state.

Alaba also expressed concerns over the influx of strangers into Kwara South Senatorial District as the by-election is fast approaching, explaining that the rate at which strangers are arriving their communities calls for concern.
