South Africa’s former President Jacob Zuma is hugging the headlines again with reports that he has fathered a new baby from a 24 year old woman. She gave birth to his child in a Durban hospital last week Thursday on his birthday.

The mother is identified as Nonkanyiso Conco and is set to become Zuma’s seventh wife.

Zuma is 76 years old.

“Yes‚ we are getting married‚ but that is all I can say. I need to consult before I give any interviews‚” she said. Conco is a director of the Pietermaritzburg-based Nomkhubulwane Culture and Youth Development Organisation‚ aimed at protecting the cultural practices of young Zulu women.

Conco reportedly resides in the plush Ballito Estate Hilltop‚ home to some of the city’s most well-heeled residents.

According to reports, the woman delivered the child at the Busamed Hillcrest Private Hospital last Thursday, Zuma’s birthday.

Zuma is a polygamist who has fathered 22 known children from at least 11 women. Zuma reportedly visited his baby under strict security on Thursday night.“They had to clear the maternity ward for other patients.

Hospital staff made it clear that this was strictly confidential,” a source with direct knowledge of the birth said.

Ray Zuma, who is related to the former president, said Zuma was going to wed a woman named Nonkanyiso Chonco.

When asked if Conco was the same woman who had given birth to a baby earlier this month, Ray Zuma responded by saying: “So?”“I can’t see why you are interested.

When he was still the president, you [the media] were terrorising him, and now you are all of a sudden interested in him.”When asked about the details of the wedding, he said he was not privy to the details.

“No date has been set yet. Both families must come together to decide on the date. We are still in the pre-nuptial phases of the process.”

Zuma’s son Edward told reporters, when asked about the baby: “We are not going to respond, or entertain any of that nonsense. When journalists visited the hospital earlier in the week, an employee confirmed that Zuma had visited the facility.“Yes he was here last week. I saw him with his security. I do not know why he came through.”

Postpone General Elections To Allow Zamfara APC Field Candidates — AGF Tells INEC

Published

on

The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to allow the All Progressives Congress in Zamfara State field candidates for the general elections.

Malami, who doubles as the Minister of Justice, made the call in a letter to INEC dated February 13 and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria.

The minister said that INEC could not foreclose the right of a political party to participate in elections without recourse to the Act.

He said: “My office received a petition from the firm of M. A. Mahmud, (SAN) & CO, in respect of the need to urgently consider Sections 38 and 39 of the Electoral Act and extend the time for the APC Zamfara to field a gubernatorial candidate in the light of a Zamfara High Court judgment in suit No.ZMS/GS/52/2018.

“The letter was requesting that the subsisting judgment in the suit be upheld and respected by INEC, as the Court of Appeal has upheld the appeal with No. CA/S/23/2019; thus effectively annulling the grounds upon which the purported cancellation of the APC Primaries in Zamfara by INEC was based.”

Malami in the letter invited INEC to comply with the judgment of the Court of Appeal by admitting the results of the APC Zamfara State primaries.

He also invited INEC to comply with the provisions of Section 38 of the Electoral Act, which empowers the commission to postpone the election for the governorship, National Assembly and House of Assembly elections.

He said this was in view of the fact that since the Court of Appeal had upheld the primaries as valid, the APC in Zamfara State would need a little time to catch up with its contemporaries in the election.

He said: “Granting them this concession is not necessarily a favour but a right that inures to all contestants under similar circumstances.”

The AGF maintained that by the doctrine and principle of judicial precedence, the appeal superseded the Federal High Court’s position which foreclosed APC Zamfara State from fielding candidates in the February and March general elections.
