The Peoples Democratic Party says the ruling All Progressives Congress is panicky ahead of 2019 general elections and is plotting to discredit the former ruling party .
The National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus , who spoke with one of our correspondents on the telephone in Abuja on Sunday , said the ruling party was doing everything to remain in power beyond 2019 .
Secondus alleged that instead of working hard to build the APC , its leaders had strategised on how to discredit the PDP, as well as cause confusion among its ( PDP) members .
He, however , said the plot would fail “ because Nigerians have seen the difference between the PDP and the rancour-enjoying APC that cannot put its own house in order not to talk of making sure that Nigeria is on the right track .”
Secondus alleged that the APC was encouraging defection in the party , adding that the leaders of the ruling party had found out that Nigerians did not find the APC worthy of joining .
He said , “ Members of our party are working hard to liberate Nigerians from this wicked government and Nigerians have been accepting us .
“ Nigerians were deceived to believe the APC which came with a propaganda in 2015. But its ( APC ) game is up . The APC is trying to paint us (PDP) black before the electorate that knows the gimmicks of the APC since 2015.
“ That is why the leaders of the APC and the presidency are in a state of panic . The day of reckoning is fast approaching ; the APC does not know what to tell Nigerians on why it has not been able to achieve the smallest of its promises to the electorate.
“ The party doesn’t know the lies to sell to Nigerians anymore . Its three cardinal areas of campaign have failed . The economy is in a shambles . The war on corruption is a fake and the promise to fight insecurity has remained what it is – a mere word of mouth .
“ Because APC crisis is increasing from Kano to Sokoto to Rivers and from Kwara to Kaduna , its leaders are confused and lack strategies on how to redeem its battered image .
“ What you are seeing is the sign of its end . The APC will soon go into oblivion.’’
Secondus said the leadership of the party would meet to discuss strategies that would make some aggrieved members to reconsider their position.
“I Remain The Substantive Chairman Of PDP Lagos” —– Segun Adewale
A chieftain of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos, Mr. Segun Adewale (Aeroland) has declared that he remains the substantive chairman of the party in the state.
Aeroland recently pumped a fist against the current occupier of the chairmanship position of the party Dr. Adegbola Domnic.
He said Dominic’s continuous occupation of the sit was against the law, as such, it has become illegal to continue to do so.
The businessman and politician while recently decrying the dwindling fate of the Umbrella party in Lagos, especially in the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state, pointed out categorically that Domnic allegedly worked with subterfuge for the defeat of PDP in the state.
While speaking at an elders meeting summoned at the instance of Chief Bode George, Adewale alleged that Domnic with the connivance of some party leadership compromised PDP’s victory by collecting an undisclosed sum of money from another gubernatorial candidate in the Lagos race.
According to him, PDP’s governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje who has was alleged to have selfishly cornered campaign funds from Abuja, which he has not been able to account for, was pointed to have worked for the emergence of Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC.
Aeroland pointed that this has been the bane of PDP in Lagos, since the return of democracy in 1999.
He alleged that party stalwarts like Olubode George have always sabotaged the party’s chances at the polls by working with Bola Tinubu, to deliver victory to his party.
On Tuesday, March 12, in commando style, Aeroland flanked by his cronies invaded the Ikeja Secretariat of the party, and locked down the space, and declared himself as ‘now in charge’ of party affairs in Lagos.
According to Adewale, the November 2017, process that elected Mr. Moshood Salvador (who has now defected to APC) and other state exco’s was a unilateral decision of one party leader, but was permitted in the interest of fostering intra-party peace.
After Salvador’s defection to the ruling APC, it was imperative to constitute an interim leadership to harmonize the party ahead of elections, this ushered in the Dr. Domnic-led exco, with a 90 days tenure expiration, which according to the books elapsed December 21.
Adewale maintained that the letter confirming him as chairman of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Lagos Chapter stated that his tenure would run until June 2021. Thus, he stepped aside in a bid to stem the prolonged feud in the state.
“The letter confirming my chairmanship states my tenure expires in 2021 June. The letter didn’t state I should step aside.
I stepped aside voluntarily to stem the prolong crises in Lagos PDP. What I did was to allow peace to reign for the national leadership to allow full reconciliation.
“So, I decided to step aside. They then brought in Moshood Salvador. Salvador later left for APC. So, they said they needed somebody to fill the gap because of election. That was why they brought in Dr. Dominic and they gave him 90 days to act. His 90 days tenure has since expired and currently, we don’t have a chairman in that secretariat. That was the reason why I went there, chased them out. Right now, I am the state chairman of the party based on the letter I have, based on the election that was held before they asked me to step aside.”
According to Adewale, it has become imperative for him to act in the chairmanship capacity, thereby sacking Dr. Domnic whose administration had been marred by several misconduct that has threatened the progress of the party of on fronts.
Dominic’s regime was perceived to have recklessly changed all the authentic chairmen, from the ward to the LG within 2 months to the election , thereby creating factional chairmen at the ward to LG level.
This act Adewale maintained received the blessings of Chief Bode George whom he alleged prefers to stir up crises every four years in the party few months to the election.
In just 24 hours to the governorship election in Lagos, Dominic was also alleged to have changed list of party agents, a move found to be suspicious and in favor of the other party he worked for at the polls.
Dominic was also alleged to have set up a parallel Atiku campaign organization; this was against the template set up at the national level, of which he was the vice chairman.
Adewale has posited that a general assembly would soon be converged where Dr. Dominic and his cohorts would be expelled from the People’s Democratic Party for working against the presidential and Gubernatorial ambitions of Alhaji Abubakar Atiku and Mr. Jimi Agbaje respectively.
PDP Asks INEC To Declare Tambuwal Sokoto Gov-Elect
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, urged Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to save its time and resources by declaring Aminu Tambuwal winner of the election held on March 9.
The party, which stated this while reacting to claim by the umpire that it was under pressure to declare the governor winner of the polls, said given the margin of victory recorded on the first ballot, there was no reason not to declare Tambuwal duly elected.
Spokesman of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, said: “Our position has not changed and we insist that His Excellency, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal should be declared winner of the governorship election in Sokoto State.
“If we go by the figure of votes collated so far, the governor has satisfied the provisions of the law because he won clearly in almost all the local governments of the states.
“What are they waiting for to declare him duly elected? We are a party that has respect for the laws of the land. So, we advise our members and supporters to remain calm because at the end of the day, victory is ours.”
Meanwhile, barely a week to the March 23 date for the supplementary governorship election in some states, pressure continues to mount on INEC to declare Governor Aminu Tambuwal the winner of the March 9 guber poll in Sokoto State.
There were indications over the weekend that the tension in the seat of the Caliphate may worsen if the incumbent governor who was enjoying a clear lead in the poll is denied victory.
A top politician from Sokoto who spoke on condition of anonymity, said tension was building up in the state over fears of plans to undemocratically stop Tambuwal for another term in office.
Our source alleged that though the governor appears to be the popular choice of his people as shown in the collated result of the guber poll, the power brokers of All Progressives Congress, APC, were bent on taking the state which they consider strategic to the party’s future political plans.
The source said: “The powers that be should declare Tambuwal as the authentic winner of the March 9 governorship election in Sokoto State. The collated result showed that he won the election by the simple majority, which is what the constitution provides. They should not set the seat of the Caliphate on fire.
“Remember that even President Muhammadu Buhari won his election by the same simple majority. He was declared winner, even when elections were yet to be conducted in areas where the exercise could not hold because of one reason or the other.
“A common man on the street of Sokoto knows that Tambuwal won the election. There were so many hurdles the APC which controls the centre put before him ahead of the election but he surmounted them all.
So, what they could not get democratically, they want by all means through the back door in collaboration with INEC.”
Over the weekend, this newspaper gathered that there were fears in the PDP, of a plan by the ruling party and INEC to repeat what happened in the Osun governorship election where the PDP lost to the APC under controversial circumstances.
A video recording between the INEC Admin Secretary in Sokoto and a collation officer which trended over the weekend further escalated fears of interference in the coming supplementary election.
Twenty-Four Hours After Quitting Politics, Gbenga Daniel ‘Agrees’ To Lead Supporters To APC
A former Governor of Ogun State and the Director General of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has agreed to lead his supporters to the All Progressives Congress.
Daniel, who announced his decision to quit the Peoples Democratic Party and partisan politics on Saturday, revealed his latest decision on Sunday after a meeting with his supporters in his Aseludero Court in Sagamu, Ogun State.
Available reports have it that Daniel’s loyalists at the meeting with him on Sunday kicked against his decision to quit politics.
Led by his Special Assistant on Youth, Ifedayo Kayode, the supporters asked him to lead them to the APC instead of quitting politics.
They hinged their request on the fact that they had worked towards the emergence of Dapo Abiodun of the APC as the governor-elect in Ogun State.
Indeed a few days before the governorship election on March 9, 2019, Daniel had asked his supporters to vote for Abiodun instead of the candidate of the PDP, Senator Buruji Kashamu.
Speaking after the meeting on Sunday, Daniel said: “Basically, they (supporters) said I could resign from PDP.
“They said I must lead them to APC.
“And they also said I cannot retire from politics.
“That is the summary of what I heard.
“Now we have to take a look at it.”
Asked what his position is on the demands of his supporters, Daniel said: “What else can I say?
“My people have spoken.”
